How to Become The Go-To Expert In Your Industry.
In this blog, we’re going to be exploring how to become the “Go-To Expert” in your industry. In any industry the Go-To Expert makes nearly all the money and the business just seems to come to them. Whereas the rest of the field have to work really hard to win business and they are probably not being paid what they are worth.
But what even is a “Go-To Expert”?
Well think of it this way. The “Go-To Expert” is the name that pops into your head when you think of a certain product or service. So, if you hear the word ‘running shoe’ you may be thinking of Nike. And if you hear ‘breakfast cereal’, then Kellogg’s might pop into your head. Well it’s the same in any business.
If your car needs fixing you might have a local body shop that comes immediately to mind. Or if you are thinking ‘I need to be able to take payments on my website’, then Paypal might be your first thought. There are businesses and individuals that hold this space in every industry you can think of from dentistry to IT, and tree surgery to consultancy services in all sectors.
So, the first step in becoming the “Go-To Expert”, is positioning. In other words – being the first thought in your customers minds.
Consider this. When people think of YOUR business sector, do they (or enough of them) immediately think of you as the obvious choice. If not you are not yet the “Go-To Expert”, you don’t have the right positioning.
So how DO you position yourself in this space? Well, there are a number of things you can do. One is having a unique system or solution. Now I understand, not everyone can be James Dyson and invent a new vacuum cleaner or hand dryer. However, every business owner has their own unique perspective on things, their own way of doing something which is unique to them.
You need to be able to identify what that is and package that up into a system that none of your competitors have. And they can’t have it can they – because it is YOUR way of doing things? Remember to copyright and trademark your intellectual property.

Once you have this, you can help more people, be paid what you are worth and BE the name that springs to mind when your service or product is mentioned.
